This conversation-based app is eerily similar to Twitter – fueling the fire that might possibly lead to a cage match between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. (Who are you betting on?)

So, what exactly is Threads? Threads is a conversation-based app that was recently released by Meta/Instagram. It’s a haven for text enthusiasts, a space where you can share your thoughts, musings, and witty one-liners in all their textual glory. Forget the confines of limited captions or the struggle of expressing yourself through filtered images – Threads gives you a canvas of up to 500 characters to let your words soar. You can also weave in links, sprinkle photos and even unleash videos up to 5 minutes in length.
You will need to have an active Instagram account to use Threads. Once you have an Instagram account, you can download the Threads app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store and log in using your existing Instagram credentials. The Threads app will then be connected to your Instagram account, and you can start using it to communicate, in a “new” way, with your friends, colleagues and your favorite celebrities and news outlets.
Connecting the Pieces (& Each Other)
Just like its older sibling Instagram (hehe, you probably thought I was going to say Twitter), Instagram Threads allows you to connect and follow friends and creators who share your interests. It is incredibly easy to connect your Instagram followers to your Threads followers, making its first month quite a success (having over 100 million folks sign-up in less than a week). And according to Meta, you can “easily share a Threads post to your Instagram story, or share your post as a link on any other platform you choose.”

Advertising on Threads isn’t currently a priority. It sounds like the main focus is on user experience, making sure the app itself is functional before Meta tries to start making money off of it. Now, I am sure this is going to change in the coming months but for now, you can enjoy some ad-free scrolling.
